The school Day
Arrival and Collection from School
The school day starts at 08:55 and finishes at 15:15.
Nursery runs from 08:45 to 11:45.
Please ensure that all children are accompanied to and from school by an adult. If your child is in Year 6 and you wish for them to walk to / from school alone, then a ‘Children Going Home Alone Form’ needs to be completed and returned to school.
Children should not arrive in the school playground earlier than 8.50am and we ask that you do not allow your child to play on the outdoor climbing frames / equipment before or after school. Staff are not on duty in the playground prior to 8.50am. On wet mornings, we will endeavour to allow children into their classes at 8.45am.
We have a breakfast club available from 08:00 - 08:55 and an after school club available from 15:15 - 18.00. Both of these are run by C%L Kidz. For more details about these, refer to the Community page.
Attendance / School Absence
At Woodlands our whole school attendance target 2016/17 is 97% or above.
Please help us to achieve this target by making every effort to ensure that your child attends school regularly and that he/she arrives at school on time every day. If your child is not able to attend school for a particular reason, it is imperative that you contact the school by 09:00 on the first day of absence, giving the office the reason for absence. You must also confirm your child’s absence in writing when your child returns to school.
The Head Teacher and our School Attendance Officer monitor all absences closely. Any child whose attendance is causing concern, may result in a referral being made to the Attendance Officer.
Please can I remind parents that if you are considering planning a holiday, you should make every effort to inform the school at the earliest opportunity and ensure that the holiday is not during term time.
Requests will only be unauthorised by the Head Teacher if deemed to be for ‘exceptional circumstances.’
All requests must be sent to the Head Teacher in writing (should further clarification be required, an appointment will be made with you to discuss this further). Parents must not assume that holiday requests will be automatically authorised.
If the holiday request is not considered to be for exceptional circumstances, the request will be unauthorised.
The holiday request form can be found on the Letters and Forms page.
Please can I remind all parents dropping off/collecting children from school, breakfast club or C%l Kidz, to park with due care and attention.
Parents should not park in the school car park – unless using the disability bay.
Extreme Weather Advice:
During the winter months, the UK may experience extreme weather conditions that could disrupt the school day. At Woodlands, we will endeavour to keep the school open subject to adequate staffing and a risk assessment of the conditions. In the event that we have to close the school due to adverse weather, we will always follow Hertfordshire County Council's guidelines and inform parents at the earliest opportunity. If the school does need to be closed, the following steps will be taken:
- Hertfordshire County Council will be notified of the closure and they will update their website accordingly with the school closures in the area. You can check for updates here www.hertsdirect.org
- Closure notices will be placed on the school gates.
- A closure message will be left on the school answer-phone by the caretaker.
- Messages will be sent via 'Parentmail' where possible.
If you see no changes on the Herts direct website, or the school answer phone message has not been changed to advise parents that the school will be closed, then you can assume that the school is open as normal.
