Year Two

Welcome to Year Two!

The Year Two team are:

Miss Day (Class Teacher),
Mrs Slavin (Teaching Assistant)

We are looking forward to working with you all over the next year.

We all try our hardest to make sure that we have a healthy, happy and positive learning environment for the children.  Each child will be greeted by the warm and friendly member of the Year Two staff each morning and it is our mission to make sure that all children not only grow in knowledge but also grow in confidence, determination and ultimately achieve their potential. To make sure this happens in our classroom, we all try our best to:

-          put our hands up
-          be kind to others
-          listen to others carefully
-          try our best
-          persevere when things are challenging
-          be friendly to others
-          have a positive attitude
-          tell the truth
-          look after things
-          keep our classroom tidy
-          look our smartest
-          be organised
-          be ready to learn

We all try our hardest to make sure we deliver the curriculum in an exciting and stimulating way.  We have daily Maths and English lessons including spelling, grammar, phonics and reading.  We teach  different topics each half term and try to link our topic to our Maths and English lessons.  The children will have History, Geography, Science, Computing, RE, Design and Technology, PSCHE, Art, PE, Music and French lessons during the week delivered through a variety of different topics.  The topics for the SummerTerm are:

-Far Away Across the Sea

-Moon Landings

For more information on these topics, please click on the class newsletter below.

Don't forget Year 2 now have swimming every Thursday morning. Please make sure your child has their swimming kit in school each week, containing a towel, swimming trunks/suit and goggles (only if you provide them with a letter giving them permission to wear them).

Reading – Please hear your child read as often as possible with a minimum of three times a week.  Your child should be able to freely read the text they take home with only a few unfamiliar words having to be decoded.  Reading books are changed once a week unless you indicate in your child’s planner that they have read at home and require a new book.  There is a box in the classroom for children that require new books. If your child has read at home every night in a week, they will receive a Dojo point. If they read three times a week they will get to put a marble in the jar. Any extra effort or hard work in reading will gain children 2 Dojo points.

Home Learning Book – Each week, one piece of homework will be sent home on Thursday and due back on Monday. This will include literacy, a piece linked to topic and spellings.

Spelling – Children will be given ten spellings each week to learn.  These spellings are taken from the National Curriculum.  We will have a weekly spelling test.

MathsChildren are expected to be learning their times tables at home. Year 2 expectations are to recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
